Well, I’ll assume the game is over and you’re reading this

The reason you’re in for a treat, though, is that we’ve only
had half a day of free agency talks, and already there is a slew of things
going on. More and more comes out about
what has already happened last week, and more and more comes out about what’s
happening now as the day progresses.
The biggest news is that Kyrie Irving has extended his contract: he signed to a
$90 million 5-year max contract to the Cavs.
He’ll be in Cleveland for a while. The question is whether he will become the anchor for which the
franchise has been searching.
Next, today Carmelo Anthony sits down to meet with the Bulls. They are doing everything they can to lure
him there, decking out the United Center in attractive Melo-themed fanfare,
replete with a mockup of him in a Bulls uniform, wearing number 7.
Next, the Heat have been telling possible free agents that
they expect to have $12 million free in the salary cap. Brian Windhorst deduces this means Wade
and Bosh have agreed to take large pay cuts for this season, instead of going
with the $20 million they were initially planning to make. John Canzano at the Oregonian reported that, according to one source, Wade would sign a four year deal starting at $12 million, and
Bosh a five year deal starting at $11.
Finally, Scott Shoshnick reports the Players Association sent out a bit of advice to the players: free agents, take
paychecks over 18 months in order to protect you in case there is
a lockout after the 16-17 season. This
is not good news, but it may turn out to be necessary and prudent, because
negotiations the next time around for the CBA will be brutal. There is too much at stake, and many cans
were kicked on crucial issues that now have to be resolved.
